    What is the part number for a red shifter

    Only the Kwik-Shift I shifters are available in either red or black anodized finish. The comparable part number to the 213B is part #PPP-413

    With the item 213b can you have a push to upshift pattern for then gm powerglide and have a rear exit cable?

    Yes / No. With the Kwik-Shift shifters, one preference affects three aspects of the shifter (cable exit, upshift direction, and location of Park). However, the only way to have a PUSH upshift and rear cable exit for the Powerglide is to use shifter part #PPP-412 (Kwik-Shift I manual shifter). Then, different bracketing is required at the transmission. Meaning, the lever must be installed in the UP position, and either part #PPP-628 (with external tans shield) or #PPP-629 (without shield, for example an SFI certified Dedenbear case) cable bracket must be used. This also means that an electric shift could never be installed, as the #412 is not compatible with electric shift (cable exit and electric solenoid cannot share the same end of the case).

    Maybe Im missing something but are your shifters backwards I need park at the front of the car Forward cable powerglide PRN12 Electric shift do you have something like that love the shifters

    One decision affects three possible configurations regarding the Kwik-Shift Shifters. The decision includes and affects:
    - Cable Exit (front or rear exit at the shifter)
    - Upshift Pattern (push or pull)
    - The location of PARK (front or rear of shifter)

    Whatever is the user's primary priority of those three items determines the other two. Therefore, when looking at the Powerglide applications, in a Kwik-Shift II there are two options for a typical rear-entry cable at transmission, the #213B and the #211B shifters. In this example, if the priority is PUSH to upshift, the 213B is the correct shifter, and PARK is in the forward position, the cable exits the FRONT of the shifter, and the Electric Shift #345 solenoid mounts to the rear of the shifter.

    However, if the priority was a rear cable exit at the shifter, everything changes. The 211B is now the correct shifter, with a PULL to upshift pattern, PARK at the rear, and the Electric Shift #345 solenoid off the front of the shifter.

    By the requirements in this question, the 213B is the correct shifter for your needs.

    No, the Powerglide does not have FIRST gear next to neutral in the valve body. SECOND gear is always next to neutral. If your plan is to PULL backwards to upshift, you will need part #PPP-211B, which is a rear exit PULL upshift pattern shifter (1-2-N-R-P). FIRST gear will be toward the dash, and PARK will be toward the back of the vehicle.

The modular design of the Kwik Shift shifter allows the builder / vehicle owner to only purchase those items necessary to complete the installation. Precision Performance does not believe in selling the customer a box of parts (a kit) that either includes items that will never be used, or includes the wrong parts for the specific application---forcing the customer to spend additional funds to complete the install.

Here are common items that may or may not be needed:

Floor Mount Brackets - Door cars may need floor mount brackets, where a dragster will not. Some builders may decide to fabricate their own brackets. This often occurs on those applications with either a tall transmission tunnel and not using an air shifter. Another concern is height. From the base of the floor mount brackets to the tip of the handle button at its highest point is 12.5" (31.75 cm).

Shifter Cable - A person may already have a shifter cable that is the proper length. For FRONT exit shifter applications, a 7.0' (2.13m) or 6.0' (1.83m) length cable is common. For REAR cable exit applications, a 5.0' (1.52m) or 4.0' (1.22m) cable length is common. Front exit applications must make an "S" turn between the shifter and trransmission, and rear exit applications simply make a "U" turn. Making these bends too tight may cause premature failure of the cable lining---choose the cable length carefully.

Cable Bracket and Lever - Offered individually or as a kit, these items provide a secure connection point between the cable to the transmission. If the transmission already has a lever attached to the shaft (for the end of the cable to attach), a new lever may not be necessary.

Air Cylinder - For Kwik Shift 2 applications. Note: We recommend the Kwik Shift 1 shifter for air operation. Air cylinders for the KS-2 shifters are often purchased after-the-fact, when the user decides to add air shifting to what was once a manually-shifted KS-2.

CO2 Kit - For air shifter applications, this kit includes the remaining items (less controller) to complete an air shifter installation. (CO2 bottle, line & fittings, valve, solenoid).

Thumb Button & Bracket - Many racers still prefer a thumb button on their shifter to control a line loc, trans brake, backup lights, etc. Note: On Kwik Shift 1 applications, the top buttom in the handle is wired to a microswitch in the shifter case for this purpose.

Other Items: Electric Shift Solenoid (Only certain 2-speed GM Powerglide applications); Quick disconnect, trunion, or ball & stud, for shifter cable (at transmission): Starter Switch Relay

For FRONT exit shifter applications, a 7.0' (2.13m) or 6.0' (1.83m) length cable is common.

For REAR exit applications, a 5.0' (1.52m) or 4.0' (1.22m) cable length is common.

Kwik Shift Shifters can be ordered with either a FRONT or REAR cable exit. However, it is important to understand how this affects other aspects of the shifter design.

The Cable Exit Determines:

  • The up-shift pattern of shifter, whether it is a PUSH to up-shift or a PULL to up-shift
  • Whether the PARK location sits toward the front of the vehicle or toward the rear.
  • (On Air Shift applications) Where the air solenoid will mount (Kwik Shift 2), or where the air lines will connect (Kwik Shift 1).
  • On Electric Shift applications (GM Powerglide), "if" or where the solenoid will mount.
