I've heard that part #MAL-2764301 for the Buick 215 V8 is the same as this distributor. Is that correct?
ANSWER: Yes and No. The Buick version for the 215 V8 uses a drive gear instead of a drive dog. The lower shaft is slightly longer to accomodate the gear, and the length of the distributor housing (out of the engine block) is less. Meaning that the installed height of the Buick distributor is slightly shorter. This comes in handy if you are installing a 215 V8 in another application besides the Rover. Installing the Buick version would provide greater hood clearance. To make the Buick version work in your Rover 215 V8 you need to cut the lower drive shaft down a bit (a hacksaw would do it) to match the length of the OE Rover distributor and install the drive dog.
