  JBA Header Troubleshooting

JBA Headers & Performance Exhaust    JBA Headers are designed and manufactured with the highest engineering and quality controls, yet in some instances you may run into a problem that requires some help and explanation. This section will answer a few common troubleshooting questions. If you do not see what you need, please use the Live Chat link at right, or contact our tech support.

The FIRST issue we must address is that most problems do not occur if you merely follow the directions that were included with your product. If you lost them, spilled something on them, they faded to nothing after you left them in the hot sun for a week, or the dog ate them, you can find a new set here.

Exhaust Leaks - Gaskets Not Sealing Properly

  • Did you follow the instructions?
  • Did the components align properly, and did you take care in proper tightening sequences?
  • Did you make sure you are using the correct gasket, and that you did not over-tighten the fasteners?
  • If the leak is not at a gasket surface do you see a crack or pinhole that would qualify for warranty?

My Headers Do Not Fit

  • Do you have the correct part number for your application (year, engine, emission connections, and read any notes/comments that may affect fit on your application)?
  • Did you follow the instructions?
  • Where are the headers not fitting? If it is related to the head pipes, did you follow instructions by first aligning the head pipes, and then begin tightening the header to the engine? The head pipes over time on a running engine will actually move a bit, pulled by the exhaust heat. Even if you were reinstalling the original manifolds you would have the same problem.
  • Have you made modifications to your vehicle which would affect the fitment? Including: lift/lowering kit, forgetting to re-center your engine mounts, under hood accessories interfering, different cylinder heads.

My Header Coating is Cracking or Discoloring (Ceramic Coatings)

  • This is really an obvious sign of an engine that is not properly tuned. OK, so you may not be seeing a check engine light (computer-controlled applications), but if the EGTs (exhaust gas temperatures) are exceeding the operating range of the header you will have problems.
  • Too lean and also too rich a mixture will cause havoc with your header coating. You need to get your engine set up properly. This can be from a vacuum leak, fuel or timing settings, defective sensor, or more.

My Chrome Headers are Turning Blue

  • Well, we're sorry, but that is inherent with chrome headers. The chrome used by JBA is an industrial grade nickel coating done only to seal the header material from the causes of rust. Any header that is chromed and used on an actual running engine will turn blue.
